Organism of the Week was developed by my former Science partner (Ms. Braden). The students learn about a new living organism weekly in their ecosystem.
The students are taught the life functions of each organism and also interesting factoids about them. They are required to draw a diagram of the organism to fully comprehend the structure of the living thing. At the end, each student demonstrates their knowledge on it with a science quiz.
The past 8 years or so, we also started sharing these awesome drawings with the class in a friendly art contest. It is anonymous and their peers vote for the most amazing ones. Top 3 from each period received special recognition and also tickets in rewards (1st place-100 tickets, 2nd-75, 3rd-50)
